Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies

1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
1 cup peanut butter
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp. Salt
3 ½ cup flour
2 tsp. Soda
60 Hershey Chocolate Kisses

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Line a cookie sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, combine shortening and peanut butter. Cream shortening mixture and sugars. Add eggs one at a time. Add vanilla to milk and add to shortening mixture, mix well. Combine flour, soda and salt. Add to Shortening mixture and mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls or roll into walnut-sized balls and place on prepared cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork or the bottom of a glass dipped in flour or sugar.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.

Press a Hershey Kiss into each cookie as soon as cookies are removed from oven.
Makes 6 dozen cookies for full recipe.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Full Recipe
1 cup Shortening
1 cup Brown sugar
½ cup White sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs
2 ½ cup Flour
1 tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. Salt
2 cups Chocolate Chips
1 cup Nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Cream shortening, brown sugar and sugar in a large bowl with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and then vanilla. Beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually add flour mixture to shortening and sugar mixture. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips by hand. Drop by rounded spoonful onto and ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Let stand 2 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
It's the second week of school and all my students are eagerly anticipating when they will be able to get in the kitchens and cook. the most common question I hear is "When are we going to cook?" The answer is next week! However, this week we are going to be reviewing measuring techniques sooooooo with your help and directions I will make cookies for you to sample.

The answer is next week! However, this week we are going to be reviewing measuring techniques sooooooo with your help and directions I will make cookies for you to sample. This will definitely not be like the peanut butter sandwich!

Welcome back to school!

It has been great to welcome my students back for a new school year. I am so excited about the terrific students I have. We will have an exciting time together as we learn about food and how it affects our health as well as how to prepare lots of yummy recipes.
